Information on the list This is, simply put, a guide to ALL of the stats of every monster in FF3us. Not just every used monster, but every monster PERIOD. I have given locations, levels, Steal items, Win items, Morph items, HP, MP; every stat known to the gaming world on this game was given on the monsters of FF3. All stats should definitely be accurate. Locations should be very accurate, but if I screwed up somewhere, don't hesitate to e-mail me a corrected location. It's a very simple list, a very simple intro, a very simple title, but the players out there that are still at this game will enjoy the bountiful data in this doc. However, the order this is in is the order listed in the ROM. I've decided I don't want to change this, so if you're having trouble finding a monster, use the Find function of your browser or word processing software (whatever it's called in whatever you're using) to find your monster by searching for a name. Personally, with all the time I've spent in the internals of the game I prefer this order, but some of you would just think this is an excuse for not alphabetizing it. Well guess what? It's not only true, but you're right. :) Some things to note are the Special info and offset sections. The special info gives data like Can't Run, Can't Scan, etc. while all of the hex addresses underneath tell you where in the ROM this can be edited w/ a hex editor. However, I will not tell you where to pick up a ROM of this game or what does what in the ROM. Please visit my site and Cless' for explanations on that (see greetz at end for web addresses). Regarding the numeric stats, the enemies HAVE NO dedicated Vigor or Stamina ratings in the ROM! Stamina equals (Max HP DIV 512) + 16, with a maximum cap of 40. Vigor is a randomly chosen number from 58 to 65, and because it works that way for every enemy, I don't bother listing it in the Monster section. Also, the Win and Steal sections are divided into Rare and Common items. Rare is first; Common is second. Rare items are always hard to steal whereas Common items are usually easy to get (unless your levels are low). If "(guaranteed)" follows the won item, that means you will always get it when THAT ENEMY is considered DEFEATED. Thus, you won't get the item if: the enemy flees, Wrexsoul is inside one of your characters when you kill his goons, or you don't defeat all enemy targets of a boss battle simultaneously, because the battle ends as soon as one is dispatched (e.g. Presenter, Whelk). Morph Success % is a value of 99.609375%, 75%, 50%, 25%, 12.5%, 6.25%, 3.125%, or 0%. The actual value stored in the enemy data is a number ranging from 0 to 7, which is used to index a ROM table; comparing a randomly generated value with the one from the table then yields the probabilities. Finally, Section 3 of the guide lists the groups of items that can potentially be Metamorphed from monsters. This is handy in that it lets you know what the game has to offer without scrolling through the monster section. Note that each of the 4 items in a package has the same chance of being chosen. A note on statuses: the "Immune" attribute means TWO-WAY immunity. If a monster doesn't have the status, it can't be given to it; if it already has the status, it can't be removed from it. The (I) after a status under "Immune" stands for IMPLIED; the monster data doesn't explicitly grant immunity to that status, but other circumstances imply the critter is immune: 1) If a monster starts with any of these statuses: Mute, Berserk, Confuse, Seizure, Regen, Slow, Haste, Shell, Shell, Safe, Wall, Float* they are considered permanent (much like a character with Wall Ring or RunningShoes can't have their enhancements Dispelled). For a status to be permanent, the monster must be treated as immune to it. * This is assuming the more conventional monster Float is set. There IS a bit that gives removable Float, but Piranha is the only enemy to use this (and it's rendered moot by the conventional Float anyway). 2) If the monster is immune to Slow, it is made immune to Haste, and vice versa. If it's immune to Seizure, it is made immune to Regen, and vice versa. As those statuses are opposites of each other, the rule makes sense; the permanent Haste granted by RunningShoes wouldn't do much good if you could simply counteract it with a Slow spell. The (C) after a status under "Status" stands for CANCELLED. If a monster is listed as both starting with a status and being immune to it, the immunity will wipe out the possession of the status. A familiar example is Ribbon negating most of the ailments inflicted by the Cursed Shld. Very few monsters have setups like this. Note that implied immunities do NOT typically cancel out a starting status. However, they will under the second circumstance, which explains why Ribbon prevents Regen- causing relics from working. LONG STORY SHORT... You don't need to pay attention to the (I) after statuses, and you can pretend statuses with (C) after them don't exist at all. They're just there for informative purposes. Also, immunity to "Death" obviously does NOT MEAN the enemy is immortal! One word is just used for brevity. It is referring to "Instant Death" attacks; precisely, you become immune to attacks that have a "miss targets invulnerable to instant death" bit set. These moves are generally ones like Doom and X-Zone that kill you in a single shot, but also include attacks that reduce a key stat fractionally, such as Demi and Dischord. Be aware that enemy Specials possess no such bit; to dodge that nasty Tradeoff, you'll need to figure out a way to elude physical strikes altogether... The monsters w/ no names are event triggers unless otherwise specified. They're only there for hackers who are curious as to how the events are triggered (since the Command Script offset is included). Speaking of that, the Cmd. Pointer is the offset that points to the starting offset in the command script of the monster. One last note of interest: Evade doesn't work in this game. The only reason it's listed is for those who are curious and those who are using the Evade bugfix patch. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Version history 1.00: initial release. 1.01: fixed Nautiloid and Exocite morph items (never appeared at GameFAQs). 1.02: fixed all incorrect Morph items (thanx to assassin!), fixed a few locations. Also added dash lines between each monster. 1.03: removed Pointer Value and Cmd. Script since they were almost all completely wrong (except Guard, whoopdie-doo!). Unless someone wants to correct me on locations, this'll probably be the last version of the doc. Also, two links have been changed/removed. 1.031: Vigor changed to Bat.Pwr. Thanx again to assassin. (non-GameFAQs version) 1.1: Can't Suplex and Critical Hits if Imp info added. Critical Hits if Imp means just that; if the monster is an Imp, they make nothing but critical hits with their physical attacks. Can't Suplex is obvious. This info was discovered a few months ago, I just now got to it. Also, most of the Kefka's Tower enemies have added descriptions to their locations. I'm pretty horrible at describing that place though since everything looks the same almost, so I gave one or two locations only. Some aren't very good IMLO, so be warned. If you've played through the game once, you'll probably get most of them, but it may not help you new people much except for specific locations that I could easily describe like I did for Inferno and Atma. :\ 1.15: All Specials with Attack LV. ? have been fixed to list the damage multipliers instead. Never released. 1.3: Assassin is the official co-author for this version. Namely because assassin got a little impatient and I'm lazy. :) -------- In keeping with the Algorithms FAQ, Morph Miss percentages are now Morph SUCCESS percentages. These rates are also truly accurate, in contrast with the ( (N/7) * 100)% estimates I had before. Added the "Unblockable" property to a handful of enemy Specials. Changed the "(?)" after Skull Drgn's Special Attack to "Removes Reflect"; looking at the game's code, I found that *multiple* values would all provide this same property. Removed the Rage address for all enemies above #255, as none of them possess rages, and the previous addresses listed actually pointed to monster formation zoning data. Added list of Metamorph item packages. Added "Name Hidden" property to Special Info lists. Don't ask me how this one slipped by for 2.5 years. :/ (ZED's note: that's easy, I deliberately left it out since I felt it unnecessary to list. Some people don't feel the same it seems. Guess I should've said all *useful* stats in the intro. :) Added "Attack First" property to Special Info lists. Renamed "Protected Against" section to "Immune". Changed "Float" to "Dance" under status immunities. Added implied immunities and cancelled starting statuses to the status lists. Added the enemies' derived Stamina stats. If a monster used the Empty slot for their weapon strike graphic, I now put "Fists (Empty)" instead of just leaving it blank. Reordered stats to match how they're listed in the game. -------- Now for changes I had no help with...: Finally added a key. It's no instruction booklet, but if something wasn't clear before, it should be now, unless you just haven't played the game much yet.... Created a section for those looking up Rage info. Some monsters without names are finally identified and given locations. Sealed Cave changed to Cave to the Sealed Gate in locations. Updated Greetz, Links, and added my typical legal info finally. (added 7:04 PM 8/24/2004) Vulture and Tumbleweed's Special names corrected, were messed up during a word replace. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Ragnarok Metamorph item packages Some documents say there are 32 valid Metamorph groups; others say 26. At any rate, the game's monsters only use those in the 0 through 25 range, so that's all I'm listing here. #26-31 are all zeroes (Dirk, if applicable). Key I am assuming you know the basic game mechanics here, so I'm not going to tell you what exactly HP is or anything. Kinda redundant and insulting since this is not meant to replace the instruction booklet or any good FAQ/walkthrough. Please keep in mind the monster's Vigor rating is randomized between 58 and 65, and therefore can't be stated here. # (monster name) - The number of the monster in the game list, which may also be useful for finding a Rage in the subscreen menu, and of course, the monster's name. This may be replaced with just a description if it doesn't actually have an in-game name. Found at - Where the monster can be found. Level/HP/MP - Monster's level, HP, MP. Exp/GP - The amount of Experience and GP you can win from a monster after battle, provided the monster doesn't use GP Rain or Steal against you, which will change the total GP you win from the fight. Speed - The monster's Speed rating. Stamina - The calculated amount of Stamina a monster is given in-battle. This is determined via a formula that involves the monster's max HP, so even though it isn't a stat written into the monster stats in the game, it's not random and can be assumed with certainty. Mag.Pwr - The amount of Mag.Pwr written in the monster stats in the game. For the actual in-battle amount, multiply the given amount of Mag.Pwr by 1.5. Bat.Pwr - The strength behind the monster's Battle command and Special (not including multipliers if applicable). Hit Rate - Determines the odds of a monster connnecting with Battle or Special. Special can be excluded from this if the Unblockable property is listed for it. Defense - Physical defense. Evade - No effect. If it worked, would help avoid physical attacks, and at 128 or higher, would avoid all physical attacks whenever possible, i.e. everything except unblockable attacks, etc. Mag.Def - Magical defense. M.Block - Helps avoid all attacks. If Evade worked, would only help avoid magical attacks. At 128, it blocks every attack that can be blocked. Steal/Win - What you can steal and/or win from a monster. You can only steal/win one of the listed items. In both stats, items marked with (rare) have a 1/8 chance of being the item you get, and (common) 7/8. (guaranteed) means that's the only item you can steal/win. Morph - The items you can morph a monster into with Metamorph (Ragnarok's summon). There are four items per monster, each with an equal 1/4 chance of being picked. If there is a number next to an item, that item is listed the stated number of times and has a better chance of being picked. (2) is 1/2 odds, (3) is 3/4, and (4) means it's the only item that a monster can be morphed into. Morph hit rate - The chances of hitting a monster with Metamorph and getting an item. Absorb/Nullify/Weakness - Elemental properties. Rage/Sketch/Control - The attacks available for each skill when successful. Control attacks also serve many other roles, including Zombie, Muddled, Charm, and Collosseum attacks available to the monster. Keep in mind that while the Control list replaces the typical command script for Collosseum monsters, they still retain their counterattack scripts. Status/Immune - The status and status immunities a monster starts out with. Immunities that the monster has because of other set immunities (ex. Haste immunity because of Slow immunity) or permanent status (ex. Templar's Safe status) will have an (I) beside it, and status that do not occur due to the monster being immune as well will have a (C) beside them. Yes, the status names are a little different from the Attack guide in this doc, they will be changed eventually. Special Info - Miscellaneous special stats that don't fit anywhere else. Here's what you can find listed in this particular section: Die if MP = 0: If an attack lowers the monster's MP to 0 or lower, the monster dies. Keep in mind, it can't expend its own MP and die, you must Rasp it/Osmose all remaining MP to kill it. Name hidden: You won't see the monster's name in battle. Human: Monster takes 2X damage from the Man Eater weapon. Critical Hits if Imp: Monster always deals critical hits in Imp status. Undead: Monster can be healed by Doom and misc. instant kill weapons (Striker, etc.) Most healing items and spells will now be harmful. Attack First: Monster will attack before you do, the party cannot attack until that happens. However, that doesn't mean you can't have members set up for an attack before the monster makes its move (if you try this though, set the party up in such a way that they move automatically, the menu won't be fast enough). Can't Suplex/Scan/Sketch/Control: None of those abilities will have any effect against the monster. Can't Run: Appears between Can't Suplex and Can't Scan. If a monster has this property enabled, no one in battle can run away unless they use Escape (Sneeze would work just as well). While this usually just affects the party, if you're wondering whether the Muddle/Smoke Bomb strategy will work, you will also need to pay attention to this. Regular weapon graphic - The weapon that the monster's basic attack resembles. Special attack - The name of and the effect that the monster's Special attack will have. Monsters can have No physical damage and the Unblockable property added to their attacks. The effects themselves are pretty self-explanitory. Hex addresses - That little section at the end of the monster's stats. This gives you the ROM addresses for the following statistics: General monster stats, Steal/Win items, Rage (if applicable), Sketch, Control, command script pointer (Cmd. Pointer), command script (Cmd. Script), sprite pointer (Sprite Ptr). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Rage properties key This is a key for what monster stats you need to be looking at to determine what a Rage can do, and how the Rage works for and against Gau. Keep in mind that this is in the order that the properties show up in this particular guide, which is why it may seem out-of-order. Elemental absorb/null/weakness: these are set alongside your already existing elemental properties. Rage: the two attacks given to you. Status: these are the status given to you once the Rage has begun. This doesn't ignore already-existing immunities however, so say if you have Goggles and use Anguiform, you won't inherit the Dark status that goes along with it. Immune: status immunities given to you at the start of a Rage. These are given to you while retaining your already existing immunities with the exception of instant death. Instant death immunity is replaced, meaning that something such as a Memento Ring or a Safety Bit will do no good in Rage, it all depends on the Rage in question as to whether you'll be protected from death or not. Special info: All you really need to look at is Die if MP = 0, Human, and Undead. Regular weapon graphic: keep in mind that's exactly what it means. The look of your weapon, with a couple of exceptions (dice weaponry), will be changed to the weapon listed here. However, the properties of the weapon will remain exactly the same. Special attack: If your Rage's attacks include Special, you need to look at this to see what it actually is. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6.
